On Saturday, April 2nd, approximately 900 people braved the cold and rain to attend the 34th annual Hash Bash and Monroe Street Fair, which together featured over six hours of live music and guest speakers on marijuana policy reform topics. Many people also tuned in to the first ever free live webcast of the event, provided by onlinebands.com.
Hash Bash started on the DIAG at 11:00 AM with live music from Hazy Jane and Buddha Fulla Rymez, followed by guest speakers at noon, including UM-Flint Professor Albert Price, Scio Township Trustee Chuck Ream, author/attorney Gatewood Galbraith, poet/activist John Sinclair, High Times magazine columnist Chef Ra, and MINORML's own Vice President Melody Karr. At 1:00 PM, Chuck Ream led a march to draw attention to Ann Arbor's handling of Propoal C, the medical marijuana initiative that passed with 74% last November, and festivities moved off campus to the Monroe Street Fair.
The event was peaceful; no arrests or citations were made by the UM Department of Public Safety.
